Thames View Rated "Good"

Ofsted have rated Thames View a "Good" School

Thames View Primary School has been rated as Good in their recent Ofsted inspection, maintaining their previous inspection result.

The report comments that “Pupils are happy and are safe. They make positive friendships with one another. They behave well and show consistently high levels of respect for others.” Thames View centres its values around “The 3Rs” – respect, responsibility and resilience, and works hard to ensure that all pupils take responsibility for their learning, and contribute to their school community through circle times and a very active School Council. The report also noted highlighted that “Pupils enjoy attending this friendly school. They receive a warm greeting in the morning from Rocky, Ruby and Rolo, the school dogs. This helps some pupils who are anxious to settle to the school day.”

Thames View boasts a strong reading for pleasure culture throughout the school, with the whole school learning environments themed around the books of popular children’s authors, so the children are immersed in a true culture of a love of reading. Ofsted noted that “Teachers develop pupils’ knowledge and understanding in subjects beyond reading effectively.”

Particular attention was brought to Thames View’s Early Years department. “Teachers in the early years encourage children to learn about subject specific vocabulary. This prepares children for learning beyond the early years well. Teachers encourage pupils to draw on what they have learned before. This helps pupils to connect what they know with new learning”. The Early Years department is headed by Claire Adshead, who just last week was awarded a much-acclaimed Teacher of the Year Award (Silver Award) from The Pearson National Teacher Awards for her hard work and commitment to pupils and their education in EYFS.

Leanna Rogers, Head of School, said “we could not be more proud that OFSTED has recognised the good level of education children receive at Thames View. This, accompanied with our excellent personal development offer and outstanding behaviour, makes Thames View such a friendly place for our children to learn and our staff to come to work. We really are a school family and our report reiterates the hard work of our children, staff and local community and we will continue this fantastic journey together.”

Owen McColgan, Chief Executive of The Howard Academy Trust, said “We are immensely proud of all our children and staff at Thames View Primary School for this fantastic outcome. It is testament to the hard work of our leaders and staff who ensured that the inspection team got to see the fantastic learning that takes place in the school on a daily basis.”
