School:
Temple Mill Primary School
Job Role:
Level 3 LSA Apprentice
"I have been at Temple Mill for almost a year now! A typical day starts with getting resources ready and checking in with the class teacher, so I know what we are focusing on. During lessons, I support students with their learning, whether that is working one-to-one, helping small groups, or just keeping them engaged and on task. I also adapt activities when needed, so that everyone can access the learning. At break and lunchtime, I supervise students and get involved with them through our OPAL scheme, joining in with activities and supporting them to play and socialise in a positive way. I use this time to build relationships with students and help them feel safe and supported.
One of my favourite things about being an LSA is working with the children every day and watching their progression (academically, socially and emotionally). It’s really rewarding to see students become more confident in themselves, especially when they start to believe in their abilities and become independent in their learning. Seeing those small wins build up over time makes me feel really proud of how far they’ve come and honoured to be a part of their journey.
I receive support daily from all members of staff throughout the school. My mentor supports me through regular check-ins where we discuss my progress, any challenges I am facing, and targets for improvement. I have been guided by experienced staff on how to deliver phonics lessons and interventions effectively, which has helped to build my confidence when teaching. They also provide emotional support by creating a safe and supportive environment where I feel comfortable discussing any concerns or asking for help."
