  • Chief Executive Officer
    • Owen McColgan

      Owen graduated from St. Mary's University College, Belfast with a B.Ed (Hons) in Business and Education Studies. He worked as a Senior Leader at The Howard School before taking up the position of Finance & HR Director from April 2014. Owen is currently completing his professional examinations with CIPFA to gain Chartered Accountant Status and completing the National Qualification in Executive Leadership. Owen previously led on all operational activities within The Howard Academy Trust including Finance, Human Resources, Premises & Estates, ICT and Administration. Owen is currently a member of another local Multi Academy Trust and has extensive experience of MAT Governance.

    • Cathy Reid

      Cathy qualified to teach in 1991 having gained a BA (Hons) and a PGCE from the University of London. Cathy has experience as an Executive Headteacher, Headteacher and senior leader in several schools. She has worked with leadership teams in both primary and secondary settings and has extensive experience of leading school improvement.
      She leads School Improvement for The Howard Academy Trust. When THAT welcomed a Special Measures school into its family of schools, Cathy met with HMI and led on school improvement planning. She has been involved in School Improvement in all phases, including supporting primary and secondary schools to improve their practice and outcomes for pupils. Cathy has also had experience of supporting a University Technical College to move out category, towards becoming securely Ofsted good. Cathy has completed the NPQH and the NPQEL.
      Cathy is committed to the key importance of appropriate Professional Development for Leaders and Teachers. As an accredited National College Facilitator, she has facilitated Middle and Senior leadership programmes for Senior Managers at Primary, Secondary and Special schools.
      She has extensive experience of Governance and has been a Governor in both primary and secondary schools. Cathy has also been a member of an IEB.

    • Kyle Taylor

      Kyle joined the The Howard Academy Trust in February 2020. Kyle is a qualified accountant and is a full member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. He has a proven track record of working within a wide variety of finance roles in several public sector organisations, including working with Local Authority maintained schools.

    • Sharon Teachen

      Sharon has worked at The Howard School since November 2006. Sharon is an experienced Human Resources Manager with a proven track record in human resources within the private and public sectors. Sharon has completed her Intermediate Certificate in Human Resource Management. Sharon is a chartered member of the Institute of Personnel & Development. Sharon has been the HR Manager for The Howard Academy Trust since 1 September 2016.

    • Gary Bennett

      Gary joined the Trust in May 2019 following four years as the Facilities Manager at the Howard School.

      In his current role as Head of Estates, he is responsible for the proactive management of services and processes that support the core business of the Trust ensuring the most suitable working environment for students, staff and visitors across the whole estate.

      He leads on the management and maintenance of the academies' assets using best business practice to improve efficiency whilst providing support on Health & Safety matters Trust-wide.

    • Lisa Lewis

      Lisa qualified as a teacher in 1990, gaining a BEd (Hons) degree from Nene College, Northampton. She has worked in the Medway towns at a number of schools and was part of Medway's Leading Teachers team. Over the course of her career, Lisa has held a number of leadership roles in curriculum areas, assessment and staff development, Throughout, she has maintained a keen interest in primary PE, attending many Mini Youth Games events over the years. During her time as Headteacher at her previous school, Lisa was part of the Steering Group that led on the development of MELA, an association for primary leaders, and later spent some time as part of the Executive Committee representing her zone. Lisa became the Executive Head of the Trust's primaries in September 2019 and is currently undertaking the NPQEL.
